Once an awareness is created, core competency activities can help to build student confidence in their understanding of what the core competencies represent and their direct connection to skill development. The Univesities at Shady Grove has developed and piloted several best practices to enhance students understanding of the competencies.
ACTIVITIES TO ENHANCE YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE COMPETENCIES
Sharing the core competency definitions and behavioral characteristics with students as a reference, have students break into small groups to redefine the core competencies in their own words and brainstorming activities that would build that competency.
Identify competency building activities for each RIASEC theme
Integrating core competencies with a students self-identified RIASEC theme can create additional resonance with the student and their imagined future self.
