What is SciShield?

SciShield is a web-based safety management platform that streamlines health and safety compliance efforts by allowing laboratory personnel and EHS to manage safety through a single portal. It assists in meeting regulations and standards of care by providing a centralized repository for health and safety documentation.

  • Listing of lab hazards, space use, and personnel
  • Institutional training, and health and safety plan repository
  • Chemical safety data sheet and inventory management tool
  • Institutional committee approval documentation
  • Safety signage management tool
  • Safety inspection management tool

New to USG, so need to set up your program’s page?

Whether your program’s laboratories have recognized hazards or not, a SciShield page needs to be created and maintained to support safety and operational efforts. The following are the basic steps to getting started:

  1. Let us know what laboratories you will be using.
  2. Discuss the activities you will be conducting in regards to hazardous materials or equipment.
  3. Provide a list of laboratory personnel (director, professors, and TAs or GAs).
  4. A program page will be created by EHS from this information.
  5. Respond to SciShield emails and complete a few basic follow-up actions – setting a password, inputting laboratory information, certifying hazards and activities.
