Empowering Learners with Industry-Recognized Credentials

USG, in collaboration with the University System of Maryland (USM), Google, the National Association of Higher Education Systems (NASH), and the University of Texas System (UT), is working to expand access to flexible, career-aligned digital credentials. This initiative provides Google Career Certificates and AI Essentials courses, helping learners build high-demand skills in cybersecurity, AI, data analytics, and more.

Through this partnership, USG is advancing its mission to equip students, alumni, faculty, and staff with workforce-ready competencies that support economic growth, job mobility, and lifelong learning.

Why this Matters

Bridging Education & Employment

The job market increasingly values skills-based hiring, and industry-recognized credentials provide a direct pathway to career opportunities. Google’s Career Certificates are respected by top employers and help learners demonstrate practical expertise.

Supporting Maryland’s Workforce Goals

This initiative aligns with Maryland’s economic development strategies, helping build a talent pipeline for growing industries like AI, cybersecurity, and digital marketing. Collaboration with faculty and industry partners ensures that the certificates align with academic and workforce needs.

Expanding Access to Digital Credentials

Traditional degree pathways don’t always meet learners’ needs. By offering flexible, competency-based training, USG ensures that students, faculty, and staff can acquire job-ready skills on their own schedule. Learners can enroll in high-impact, flexible courses that complement their degree or professional growth.

Advancing Lifelong Learning

The digital workforce is constantly evolving. Providing accessible, stackable credentials allows USG learners to upskill and reskill throughout their careers.
