Program Overview
The UMD Information Science B.S. at Shady Grove provides a leading, interdisciplinary curriculum that blends high-demand technical and business competencies with critical social and ethical perspectives.
The Info Sci degree is robust and interdisciplinary, with high-demand career options including software development, database design, web and mobile development, UX/UI and human-centered design, information architecture, data visualization, cybersecurity, AI and machine learning, data analytics, business intelligence, information management, ethics and policy.
Students benefit from small class sizes, a close-knit community and the convenience of the Shady Grove location. The program blends theory, practical skills and hands-on learning, preparing graduates to apply their skills directly and immediately in their careers. Students also have opportunities to work on projects with the University of Maryland College of Information’s 400+ industry partners and at research centers and labs.
Students can also complement their degree with the Information Risk Management, Ethics, and Privacy Minor or Technology Innovation Leadership Minor. Both minors can be completed 100% online, with some courses also offering an in-person option. Accelerated 2+1 bachelor's/master's options are also available in Information Management and Library and Information Science, allowing eligible students to begin graduate-level study while completing their bachelor's degree.
Enrollment & Application Deadlines
Admission Requirements
- Fall admission only
- Minimum 60 transferable credits or an associate degree in a related field
- Preferred minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Complete required General Education requirements, except Professional Writing
- Complete required benchmark courses with a C- or better
- Review Information Science admission requirements
