Remote Access System (RAS) is a secure/encrypted virtual system allowing authenticated users access to internal services such as network drives and productivity tools.

NOTE: Software available on RAS has limited productivity tools and do ask staff members to consider installing software locally on their workstations. Most applications will be available on UMD's Terpware portal.

Requesting RAS Access

To get access to RAS, department heads or academic program directors will need to complete the RAS Request Form. 

How to Access RAS through the Web
  1. Launch your preferred web browser
  2. Visit https://shadygrove.usmd.edu/ras.
  3. When prompt, enter your USG Logon ID.
  4. Click on Login to continue.
  5. Select the virtual system you would like to connect.
How to Access RAS with VMware Horizon Client
  1. Launch your preferred web browser.
  2. Visit https://shadygrove.usmd.edu/ras.
  3. When prompt, click on Cancel.
  4. Select the link Install VMware Horizon Client.
  5. Click on Go to Downloads for the appropriate version of VMware Horizon Client for your device.
  6. Launch the installer file that was downloaded.
  7. Launch VMware Horizon Client once installed.
  8. Click on + New Server.
  9. Enter sg-vmsec-srv.sgrove.usmd.edu for the connection server.

NOTE: Windows 10 users, do not download VMware Horizon Client for Windows 10 UWP.  Instead, download VMware Horizon Client for Windows.
