The Montgomery County Executive’s Fellowship & Internship Program will provide students with an opportunity to work in the County, a local government that serves a diverse community of over one million residents in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. This is a one-semester program within the Office of the County Executive (CEX). We are currently seeking to fill one Intern. The selected candidate must commit to 14-20 hours a week and will report to a staff member in CEX. This internship is suited for those interested in public policy and being in a political environment while also expanding their administrative skills. All interested students, especially those majoring in public policy, political science, public administration, environmental studies, public safety, are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be adept at adjusting to changing workflows and will be motivated by a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Ability to work in a hybrid capacity. Both office and telework hours are expected in this position
· Drafting, editing, proofreading, and formatting correspondence for constituents and agencies
· Conducting research on current issues and initiatives
· Attending council meetings
· Assisting in correspondence archiving compliance
· Maintaining office organization and filing
· Completing various special projects for principals

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: No experience necessary.
Education: A Montgomery County resident currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at any accredited higher learning institution
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
Preferred Criteria
1. Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, Windows, Office 365, SharePoint, Teams and other computer operating systems
2. Familiarity with basic elements of local government, such as the roles of the Executive Branch and County Council
3. Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving problems, and in serving and supporting customers
4. Past volunteer or work experience in a government or public policy setting
5. Experience conducting academic research on government related topics
