Jobs for Fall 2026 at the Macklin Center for Leadership and Communication

The Macklin Center for leadership and Communication had three positons currently available for Fall 2026. Please review each opportunity and send resumes to the appropriate contact, as each role is different.

 

1. Disability Support Services Proctor

The Disability Support Services Proctor is responsible for proctoring exams within the reduced and private distraction testing center located in the Macklin Center for Academic & Leadership Success offices in the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Building (building 4) in room 1322K and 1322L.

The general duties regarding this position are as follows:

Graduate level, undergraduate level: Up to 20 hours per week, with a pay rate for undergraduate students ($15.00) and graduate students ($16.00). Must be available Monday - Friday between the hours of 9 am - 5 pm.  

Current Protocol: The Testing Center is open from 10:00am - 5:00pm

DSS Proctor Duties Include:

1. Administer testing accommodations: 
--Check-in students for their exams 
--Serve as test proctor while students are taking exams 
--Monitor testing space to ensure sure confidentiality, integrity, and ethics are preserved 
2. Liaise between testing room and main Macklin Center office in the event of testing issues, when students have questions, or as other concerns arise. 
3. Message in the “group me” app if there are concerns regarding testing, student accommodations, testing materials etc. 
4. The DSS proctor must sign and agree to confidentiality agreements upheld through USG DSS offices to ensure privacy of all students testing. 
5. Arrange and prepare testing services for students: 
--Help update student records on appointment system when needed 
--File test requests in the weekly testing folders 
--Organize testing materials for upcoming exams as needed with the DSS Manager 
Additional Information:
This person does not need to have any experience in disability services, just the ability to be empathetic, organized, procedure-oriented, communicative, and reliable. The DSS proctor needs to be patient and have the ability to feel comfortable with confronting students in a respectful manner if there is an issue and refer them to the DSS Manager.

Proctors play an important role in making sure students with disabilities have a positive experience and that all testing is conducted in a way that preserves integrity. Proctors oversee and ensure that academic integrity is upheld everyday during testing times.

2. Student Leadership Assistant

The John and Effie Macklin Center at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) empowers both undergraduate and graduate students to build career-readiness skills through specialized programming, tailored learning strategies, and support services: writing, public speaking, leadership development, disability accommodations, and more. The Center thrives on its values of equity, empathy, collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning.

Position Overview
We are seeking a graduate student at USG to serve as a Student Leadership Assistant for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. You will assist the Macklin Center Team with student group resource coordination, event planning, and general inquiries.

Job Responsibilities
You will aid the Macklin Team in supporting around 40 student clubs, organizations, honors societies, and leadership development programs. You will be one of the points of contact for student group inquiries, space requests, and resource allocations. You may assist the Macklin Team with leadership programming and events, as well as contribute to marketing and outreach efforts.

Key Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a graduate program at USG.
Have a strong interest in student affairs, higher education leadership, communication, or related areas.
Proficient in peer leadership and possesses a strong work ethic.
Excellence in oral and written communication.
Ability to collaborate effectively and inclusively with diverse student groups.
Strong organization, initiative, and attention to detail.
Logistics
Location: USG campus, Building IV, Suite 1322
Hours: 15–20 hours/week for the 2026-2027 academic year (must commit to both the fall and spring semesters)
Compensation: $16-18/hour

3. Student Office Assistant

The John and Effie Macklin Center for Academic & Leadership Success, in collaboration with university partners at Universities at Shady Grove, empowers undergraduate and graduate students to develop effective learning strategies, persistence, and collaboration through customized academic, leadership, career coaching, and disability support.

Job Description:
The Macklin Center Student Office Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of our service center and our team with various tasks. They will ensure that students at USG, faculty/staff, and community members receive excellent customer service. The Macklin Center is a fast-paced, vibrant office environment, and the Office Assistant will be required to support our diverse portfolio of services. This position is for the 2026 - 2027 academic year (fall and spring semesters).

On-site Duties and Responsibilities:
--Provide general information and assistance to current students, prospective students, and visitors about leadership, teamwork & collaboration, oral and written communication, critical thinking and problem-solving, disability support services, career coaching, and more. 
--Assist with answering phones, checking office emails and voicemails, filing, making copies, and other administrative work. 
--Maintain front desk and Google Drive organization.
--Help with data collection and data entry.
--Assist with coordination, planning, and marketing of programs and events.
--Support student groups by reviewing electronic requests and responding to general inquiries.
--Support our Disability Support Services test proctors. 
--Special projects and other duties as assigned.


Qualifications 
Must be registered in classes offered at the USG campus for the 2026-2027 academic year 
Must be in good academic and judicial standing
Must be able to work 20 hours per week during regular office hours for both the fall and spring semesters

Hours:
20 hours per week during Macklin Center office hours (Monday - Friday; 9 am - 5 pm). Some evening hours may be requested but are not required.
