Bicycles and Micromobility Vehicles

To support safe and accessible campus pathways, all bicycles and micromobility vehicles, including e-scooters, e-skateboards, electric bicycles, hoverboards, and Onewheels, must be parked at designated bicycle racks. Micromobility vehicles are prohibited inside all campus buildings. 

Bicycle and Micromobility Vehicle Parking

Designated bicycle racks are located at:

• Building I: South side
• Building II and Traville Gateway Garage: Between the two structures
• Building III: Southwest corner
• Building IV: Adjacent to all major building entrances

Bicycles and micromobility vehicles may not be parked:

• At a building entrance or exit.
• In a landscaped area.
• Where they interfere with pedestrian access or accessibility routes, including ramps, sidewalks, stairways, and curb cuts.
• Chained, locked, or otherwise attached to handrails, trees, doors, signposts, utility or light poles, trash cans, tables, chairs, benches, fences, or any other object not designated for bicycle or micromobility parking.

Bicycles secured to an object other than a designated rack or left unsecured may be removed at the owner’s risk and expense.

Impounded Micromobility Vehicles

Micromobility vehicles found inside buildings or improperly parked may be impounded. Any student found in violation may be referred to the appropriate conduct office at their home institution.

Impounded micromobility vehicles may be claimed at the Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) Office on the first floor of Building II during operating hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

To claim an impounded vehicle, owners must provide:

• A valid USG or government-issued ID
• Proof of ownership
• Payment of a $35 impound fee

During an impoundment, TAPS personnel may remove locks and/or locks may get damaged. USG is not responsible for the repair or replacement of locks.

Lost or Stolen Bikes or Micromobility Vehicles

If you cannot locate your bicycle or micromobility vehicle, contact TAPS to determine whether it has been removed or impounded.

If you believe your bicycle or micromobility vehicle was stolen, contact Public Safety and Security at 301-738-6065 or visit the security desk on the first floor of Building III.

Help Keep USG Safe

• If you see an electric micromobility vehicle inside a campus building, notify Public Safety and Security or TAPS. Staff will respond in accordance with campus procedures.
• Lithium-ion batteries that power micromobility vehicles can catch fire without warning, creating intense fires that are difficult to extinguish. Review the National Fire Protection Association’s safety guidance.
• If you see a micromobility vehicle on fire, do not attempt to extinguish it. Call 911 immediately, leave the area, and warn others to stay away.

Capital Bikeshare Availability

A Capital Bikeshare station is located on Traville Gateway Drive at the southwest corner of Building III.
