Program Overview

The Master of Science in Health and Human Performance (HHP) program (formerly Applied Health Physiology), offered at Salisbury University and the Universities at Shady Grove (USG), focuses on cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation, fitness and wellness, and strength and conditioning. Students are prepared for professional careers in clinical physiology, community and corporate wellness, and university-based athletics, as well as doctoral study in Health and Human Performance, Exercise Science, Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.), and related fields.

The comprehensive HHP curriculum includes individualized student experiences responsive to the changing demands of the applied health care community. The program fosters a commitment for every student to earn an appropriate professional credential through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and/or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Every student participates in a supervised internship in a focused area of practice to gain valuable practical experience.

The HHP program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) through its Education Recognition Program.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution 
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA 
  • Complete prerequisite coursework and review the admission requirements
  • Two letters of recommendation 
  • Personal statement
