Program Overview

The University of Baltimore offers the M.A. in Integrated Design at The Universities at Shady Grove. This master's program combines conceptual thinking, professional writing and graphic design while exploring both traditional and digital media.

The curriculum is based on direct research and consultation with professionals throughout the corporate and nonprofit sectors to best prepare students for careers spanning the communications field. Students come to the program from a wide variety of educational and professional backgrounds, and while many already have experience as writers or designers, it is not a requirement. The program's faculty includes innovative, respected professionals in communications, writing and publishing from throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

The streamlined course requirements for this 36-credit program examine conceptual creativity, advanced writing, typography, web development and other aspects of communication that inform writing and design. Students develop portfolios, work in teams to solve major real-world design problems and can pursue professional internships throughout the Baltimore-Washington area. UB offers in-state tuition to graduate students in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia, including those enrolled in programs at USG.

Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA, or 2.8 GPA with a portfolio indicating high potential
  • Background in professional writing, graphic design or digital media, or substantial professional experience
  • Portfolio of writing and/or design work
