Program Overview
The top-ranked Doctor of Nursing Practice Family Nurse Practitioner specialty prepares advanced practice nurses to be primary health care providers for individuals of all ages and their families.
Through more than 700 precepted clinical hours, students develop expertise in the management of care for individuals across the life span, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, as well as diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases.
The Family Nurse Practitioner specialty is available at The Universities at Shady Grove and can be completed in as little as three years. Courses are offered in a blend of face-to-face and online formats. Graduates are prepared for certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board, an independent, nonprofit certifying body that evaluates individuals wishing to enter, continue, and/or advance in the nurse practitioner profession.
Newly admitted D.C. residents who enroll in UMSON programs at USG are eligible for Maryland in-state tuition — a major cost savings on a top-tier nursing education.
The DNP program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
