Program Overview
The B.S./M.S. Dual Degree Clinical Dental Hygiene Leader (CDHL) Track is for individuals who already possess a bachelor’s degree in another field and have completed the required prerequisite coursework. The program is geared toward students with a science background who have decided to specialize in dental hygiene and those who want a primary health care role in the oral health profession.
This unique two-year dual-degree program, housed at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG), enables students to obtain both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in dental hygiene. The CDHL Track curriculum and course schedule includes didactic coursework at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, pre-clinic, clinical and simulation experiences at USG, and additional clinical rotations in Baltimore.
Students benefit from USG’s interdisciplinary environment and access to UMSOD faculty in classroom, laboratory, clinic and community settings. A strong emphasis is placed on research, scholarly writing and scientific literature, preparing graduates to become competent clinicians, make evidence-based decisions about patient care, work interprofessionally and assume leadership roles in oral health care.
