Program Overview

Towson University has been a leader in teacher preparation for more than 150 years. The Department of Early Childhood Education is distinguished nationally and regionally by its breadth, expertise, and innovative practices. The department provides a comprehensive academic program, combined with valuable internship experiences that prepare students to understand how young children develop and learn.

Integrating teaching, scholarship, internships, and service, the Early Childhood Education program prepares teachers to create successful learning environments and support safe and healthy communities. Students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to support young children, their families and caregivers, and their communities.

Students learn from acclaimed scholars and practitioners and benefit from active learning in inclusive environments, individualized advising, mentoring support in culturally and linguistically inclusive classrooms, opportunities to integrate technology into the curriculum, and participation in professional organizations such as the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
